Lavaca County Booking Photo Meaning
A Lavaca County mugshot is an intake image tied to a particular booking. Release does not erase the historical booking by itself. It also does not make the image a current portrait. The official detail should be read with the person's name, admit date, confining agency, charge rows, court type, and booking context. Those fields help separate people with similar names and keep the photograph tied to the right event.
Texas public-information law treats photographs as recorded information held by government, but disclosure can still be limited by law-enforcement, privacy, juvenile, sealed, or expunged-record rules. The sound request is for the exact booking photograph under the Texas Public Information Act, subject to lawful redaction or withholding. An image alone cannot show whether the case ended, whether another agency took custody, or whether the person returned to the community.
Lavaca Release Photo Channels
Official sources should come first. Lavaca's Released list is stronger than a plain current roster because each name can open a detail containing a photograph and case-routing facts. Other channels answer narrower questions and may not preserve a county booking photo.
| Channel | Photo availability | Best access |
|---|---|---|
| Lavaca Released detail | Verified clickable booking image | Open Released mode, search the person, then select the matching name |
| Sheriff records request | Requestable, subject to exceptions | Name the booking date or number and ask for the booking photograph |
| TDCJ record | State photograph may be available | Use the official state system or a formal public-information request |
| Texas IVSS-Counties | Not a dependable photo archive | Use for status and alerts, then confirm with the Sheriff record |
| News or copied sources | Sometimes | Treat as a lead and match it to an official booking and court record |
A current-custody roster is not the right endpoint after release. Use the Released side of the application. If a state-prison photo is involved, do not treat it as the Lavaca jail image. TDCJ records document state custody, while the Sheriff detail documents the local booking.
Lavaca Released Detail Photos
Start from the Lavaca County Sheriff page and follow its County Jail Inmate Search link. Switch the application from Current to Released. Search by full name, or use the Days control when the booking ended recently. The grid itself has no photo column. Select the matching name to open the detail, where the thumbnail or full image appears with demographics, admit information, confining agency, charges, court dates, bond entries, and the charging or arrest agency.
The photo should be matched with more than a name. Compare age, admit date, charge, court, and agency. A bond amount shown near the photograph does not prove that bond caused release. The detail did not expose a clear release-reason field during research. For a recent set of names, the Lavaca County 24-Hour Releases explains how to set the Days field to one without relying on an unstable direct route.
No official Lavaca Sheriff mobile jail app was verified. No app should be substituted for the official browser detail. The Sheriff site links social media, but no regular photo or release feed was established there either.
Request Lavaca Booking Photos
When a detail image is absent, too small, or no longer online, request the existing record from the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office. The written channel is also useful when the exact booking, photo source, or release destination needs durable proof. Ask for records rather than asking the agency to research a broad question.
- Identify the person, approximate admit date, and booking number if known. State which booking photograph is sought.
- Submit in person at 38 FM 318 in Hallettsville, by mail to LCSO Records Unit, P.O. Box 373, Hallettsville, TX 77964, or by email to LCSOpublicrequest@co.lavaca.tx.us.
- Include the valid state-issued identification required by the Sheriff's published sheet and request electronic delivery when suitable.
- Ask for the booking or booking-out sheet and jail-register entry with the photograph when identity or release context also matters.
- Review any estimate, redaction, or response against the named booking and court case.
The Sheriff's fee chart lists paper or fax copies at ten cents per page with a one-dollar minimum. It lists labor and other actual costs in defined cases, but no separate fixed booking-photo fee. An itemized estimate is supplied above forty dollars. Texas guidance generally requires an agency within ten business days to release records, state when they will be ready, identify no responsive record, or use an authorized withholding process. Broader release-record steps appear in the Lavaca County released inmate search and records coverage.
Lavaca Release Photos Beyond Jail
A person transferred from Lavaca County Jail into TDCJ has two separate custody records and may have two different photographs. Government Code section 552.029 includes a department photograph among public categories for a person confined by TDCJ. The convenience email information service says it does not supply photographs, so use the official current record where available or make a precise formal request. A county Released label followed by a TDCJ result may describe transfer into state custody, not a return home.
Local news and press releases can carry an agency-supplied image for a specific incident. They are not complete photo archives. Publication dates, captions, and follow-up corrections matter. Copied databases can also retain old images, but their entries may be stale, mislabeled, or stripped of the court and booking context. Use them only as leads and return to the Sheriff's record, the responsible clerk, or TDCJ for confirmation. No commercial mugshot publisher or removal service is linked here.
Lavaca Mugshot Expunction Route
Lavaca County publishes a distinctive local aid: its 2025 Expunction Entity Directory. It identifies the Sheriff and Jail, court clerks, local police, community-supervision department, and justices of the peace that may hold parts of an arrest record. That map helps route a signed order to the actual record holders. It does not itself grant expunction or show that a particular image qualifies.
Texas moved expunction law to Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A. Eligibility depends on the case facts and statutory path. An expunction can direct covered records to be returned, destroyed, or removed. Nondisclosure is different. It generally limits ordinary public access to a qualifying record but does not erase every governmental copy. The court order, not a verbal request, controls what each listed agency must do.
Send a suspected data error to the office that owns it. The Sheriff can address its booking image and fields, while the clerk controls the judicial file. Include the exact record, disputed fact, and supporting order or identification. Do not demand that the Sheriff change a court disposition it does not own.
Correcting Lavaca Mugshot Records
Texas Business and Commerce Code Chapter 109 regulates qualifying criminal-record publishers. A publisher that receives a completeness or accuracy dispute must investigate within forty-five business days. If the record is incomplete or inaccurate, the law requires prompt correction or removal without a fee and notice of the result after the investigation. The chapter also addresses publication after qualifying notice or knowledge of an expunction order.
This is not a blanket right to erase a truthful, unexpunged booking photograph. It also does not set the Sheriff's retention duty. Texas schedules preserve the county jail register permanently and generally keep booking-in, booking-out, release, and transfer documentation for release or transfer plus two years. A photo vanishing from a web detail does not prove that the government record was destroyed.
Correction work should preserve the event trail. Save the booking number, image URL, admit date, and a copy of the order or corrected court record before contacting an office. Ask each custodian to correct only the field it owns. If the booking image is attached to the wrong person, point out the identity conflict with neutral identifiers. If the court later entered an expunction order, provide that signed order through the route named by the clerk. An old search result or copied caption may remain visible for a time even after the official source changes, so recheck the originating record and document the response date.
